Some of you might have noticed a recent desire for an uprising in Iran. Meanwhile Mousavi/Karrubi have “called” for a demo on February 14. They have submitted their application for a permision for a demo on that day. The “greens” on Facebook are giving an impression as if Feb 14 is going to be something extra-oridnary. Some people have been attracted to this call as well. Let’s look at this dynamic closely. As far people see it, this call for demo on Feb 14 creates a minimum of security coverage. “If we go out in a rally permitted by the IRI, the chances that we’re going to be killed is lower. That’s the whole point of using figures like Mousavi in order to pursue our own agenda”.
But, there is no chance that the IRI will give a permission to a rally (regardless how mild or how radical the opposition might express themselves). Otherwise what’s the purpose of IRI’s execution machine, specially in the past few months, latest of which is the execution of 10 Afghans today? What are they terrorizing people for other than “do not dare to protest the IRI”? Now, would the IRI give a legal permission to rally against it? Yeah…sure!!.
Why are Mousavi/Karrubi doing this?
a) Mousavi/Karroubi’s intention however is to tame the wrath of the people of Iran for their own benefits and for the benefits of the IRI. As far as they are concerned there will be no demo to oppose the Islamic Republic. These two figure heads of the IRI aim to redirect people’s readiness for an uprising against the IRI which is now boiling in the light of the ongoing evolutions in Tunisia/Egypt. They THINK they can reduce a revolutionary sentiment to a “reformist” one in order to save the IRI. They can dream on.
b) Mousavi/Karroubi are under pressure by the IRI because the extent of the IRI’s terrorism has reached them as well, they want to reduce the pressure by threatening the governing faction of the IRI by a potential uprising only to get the IRI off of their back. Mousavi/Karrubi know very well that there will be no permission to rally. They just want to use the threat. That’s all. As far as they are concerned there will be no demo against the IRI on Feb 14 or any other day.
Having said that:
* Whenever an uprising starts in Iran again it will have no “permission” from anybody, be it on Feb 11, 14, …
* We are ready and we will come out for an uprising, we have workers organizations, Women’s Equality associations, Children’s rights activists and orgs; we have students orgs; anti-execution movement; we have various anti-IRI orgs in Kurdistan; etc.
* Whenever we come out in inspiration of the leftists revolutions in Tunisia/Egypt, we’ll have two slogans for the IRI:
Down with Islamic Republic of Iran – all factions included
Long Live Freedom and Equality
